One of the most rewarding aspects for project owners in the design-build residential process is the ability to express individual preferences and tastes through owner selections. Finmark Construction assists in this vital process with suggestions, guidance, and procurement throughout the design and delivery phases of the project.
Items frequently designated to be selected by the project owners are flooring, paint colors, cabinetry configuration and style, countertops, appliances, tile, light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, closet shelving configuration and style, and various accessories such as bathroom hooks, mirrors etc.
While this may seem like an overwhelming task, we have some recommendations to make this aspect of the build experience fun and rewarding:
1.) You can save inspirational photos when you cross them. Pinterest and Instagram are great ways to identify things that catch your eye and will help develop themes of taste and style.
2.) Document your “must haves” and “nice to haves” in a single location organized by room.
Example:
• Kitchen: Must have pendant lights over the island.
• Powder Bath 1: It would be nice to have a large oval mirror above the vanity.
3.) Be flexible. Sometimes, constraints from other home design or budget aspects can limit the outcome, but often, we can propose a very tasteful and suitable alternative.
4.) Share information early and often. While we may not need to make a decision on something early in the construction phase, the project team must know the general direction so we can account for necessary accommodations on time.
5.) You can use our design checklist as a guidance tool and starting point if you like. The design team provides project owners with a checklist to outline objectives around selections during the feasibility study phase. Please keep this document handy and build it out as we move ahead with the project.
We are confident that our project will showcase your selections and be a source of satisfaction for years to come.
